Carlsen versus Nepomniachtchi, World Chess Championship 2021, Game 6
Analysis of Kasparov - Topalov 1999
Possibly the most brilliant move in chess history
Levitsky versus Marshall, 1912
All roads lead to Rome
Let's look at the opening of a very famous game played between Bobby
Fischer and Donald Byrne in 1956:
Now, let’s compare that opening to another game, played between the
great Tony Miles and Kasparov back in 1986, where Kasparov, with the Black
pieces, plays the "Slav" line of the "Queen's Gambit":
Next, let's look at another game, one played in 2001 with one
Luc Bergez having the White pieces, and Josep Manuel Lopez Martinez
having the Black pieces:
Now, three games, one with a 1. Nf3 opening, one with playing the Slav
line of the Queen's Gambit, and one playing the Grunfeld Defense. Let's
look at the position after White's eighth move in the Fischer-Byrne game:
And compare that to the position after White's eighth move in
Miles-Kasparov 1986:
Not to mention the position after White's eighth move in Bergez - Lopez 2001:
Point being, three different openings, but they all lead to the same
position. Indeed, Fischer - Byrne is considered a Grunfeld even though
it starts with 1. Nf3 instead of the "standard" 1. d4.
